New details about Fate/Extra Record have arisen via Aniplex at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Firstly, they said that Type-Moon studio BB served as the project’s core planning team rather than handling all practical development internally. Developer Meteorise joined the project before the latest restructuring.
The transition did not result in abandoning features from the original plan. The game continues to follow its initial concept and is intended to reach the final form the team originally targeted.
Regarding gameplay, the redesigned Arena features larger areas, treasure chests, floor bosses called Gatekeepers, environmental mechanics, and encounters with opposing Masters and Servants.
Combat uses a deck-building command system governed by Action Points. Players choose from cards drawn each turn and balance attacks, defense, skills, and support actions. Linking three compatible cards produces an EXTRA Attack card that costs no AP, while the Master can spend MP on Code Casts to provide additional support.
Defense revolves around a persistent Guard value. Defensive cards add Guard, and incoming damage reduces that value before affecting HP. Players can also use Data Access to inspect upcoming enemy actions and command-card information.
Each Servant has their own card mechanics. For instance, Saber can generate and combine Rose cards to increase offensive potential. Archer emphasizes chains and numerous attacks, including Projection commands that generate additional cards. Caster uses delayed talisman commands capable of dealing heavy damage after a set period and has access to several status effects.
The Arena also introduces special encounters with objectives that do vary. One fight against Shinji’s Rider shown during the session asks players to deal 50 damage within three turns. A later encounter instead requires surviving for three turns against Rider’s Noble Phantasm.
Shinji also interferes directly with Arena exploration. The footage showed pixel-art versions of Shinji throwing bombs and forming a large pyramid to block progress. In one sequence, the player’s Servant cuts a chain holding a suspended ship, causing it to fall onto the obstruction. Some environmental situations include QTE-style inputs, and the Servants can respond differently to these events.
Another addition is Servant Time, a conversation event found at specific Arena locations. These scenes provide additional interactions with the player’s chosen Servant and can increase their stats. It’s also worth noting that the information-gathering phase for learning more about opponents has been redesigned to make it easier to follow.
The team is also adding new characters who appear in side quests, alongside familiar characters from other Type-Moon projects.
Asked about further Fate/Extra projects after the remake, Aniplex said nothing is currently decided. However, the company intends to consider possibilities for the series after taking responsibility for Fate/EXTRA Record.
Moreover, new illustrations from Japanese retailer bonuses have been unveiled, with one depicting Saber, another featuring Caster, and another appearing to tease a new character:
